Buccaneers Let Browns Come Back Late & Lose in OT- Do The Bucs Have Bigger Problems?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lose 23-17 and fall to 5-6, while still leading the NFC South.
The Cleveland Browns hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at FirstEnergy Stadium one week before Deshaun Watson comes back off of suspension and takes over for Jacoby Brissett. The Browns will need a miracle to make the playoffs, but this win keeps them alive.
The Buccaneers led 17-10 halfway through the third quarter and held that lead for the rest of the game. Until Jacoby Brissett connected with David Njoku for 12 yards on a miracle one-handed touchdown with 32 seconds remaining in regulation. The game was tied up and headed to overtime. The game remained tied for the majority of overtime, but with 19 seconds remaining, the Browns handed the ball off to Nick Chubb leading to a swift score and the game.
All eyes are now on the Buccaneers and it is safe to say that many fans are not happy about the performance. Many fans are calling for the firing of both Todd Bowles and Byron Leftwich, and their postgame press conferences did not help ease the mind. Bowles was asked about the decision to not call a timeout late in the 4th quarter which would have allowed the Buccaneers to get the ball back with a little over a minute left, instead of only having half that time. He responded after a moment of silently pondering by saying, "The clock would have expired anyway," and leaving it at that.
Not only did the Buccaneers break a 2-game win streak, but Tom Brady also had a very longstanding record broken today. Coming into this game he was 218-0 when leading by 7 with 2 minutes or less remaining in the game, and he exits the game 218-1.
